Gawd and Bleugh?

Just made an interesting lunch in an attempt to use up some old stuff in cupboards.

Bacon and Salad Risotto.
These quantities serve 1, but can easily be multiplied up!

Ingredients:
* Half an old pack of preprepared salad
* 2 bacon rashers
* A carrot
* 2 spare bags of rice
* A beef oxo cube
* Some oil
* Dregs from the bottom of a bottle of wine
* Garlic Paste

1. Chop up and fry the bacon in the oil. Add the carrots.
2. Dissolve the oxo cube in boiling water.
3. Add the rice to the bacon and carrot.
4. Slowly add the oxo bit by bit
5. Add the wine dregs
6. Add a bit of garlic paste
7. Add the salad
8. Simmer for 10 minutes

TADA!

And it was actually really nice!

Day of Confiscation (28th May 2005)

Got up at 10.30, which is pretty reasonable, and as I was shaving, Jen called with my birthday present (late cos of evil ebay man of doom). So I shaved quickly (and cut myself) and opened it up. It was a signed copy of a programme from Marillion's 1982 Script Tour! Signed by all of them. Wow! Quite impressive! I am muchly pleased with it.

In the afternoon I had to get Alex to confiscate my internet cable so I would get more focused for work and it worked! I got loads done, finished MIMS and have got most of my practical paper done. It's not too hard, it's just the calculations are evil - I'm beginning to get the hang of concentrations/volumes/quantities etc, which is bonnie! I managed to calculate some reasonable RC and P:O ratios (3.3 and 3 respectively) for the first time ever which was cool. They take a long time, but I think now i've done them properly I'll be quicker in the actual exam! Yay.

So now it's 1.50 - I was going to carry on and finish the paper, and then I got a question on the mitochondrial PMF and respiration rates. I can do it, its just a faff - kind of like defining a word you use all the time, but are never exactly sure how to define it. Like modest.

I have also been sufficiently geekified by Jen. Oh well, bye bye life!

I'm a Democrat! Who would have thought.

Spent 4 hours last night doing 13 pages of a lecture series. AAARGH!!!! Today is the hottest day this year, and I have tonnes of work to do... so what am I doing? Blogging on here, and taking personality tests!

Did the political one under the instruction of Jamie.

Productivity Increase

A good couple of days.

I went out to Dojo's last night and had the biggest bowl of soup ever (so big they gave me a ladle to eat it with - it had huge noodles, scallops, squid, prawns, mussels, crab, oriental cabbage, onion, mini sweetcorn and many other things. It cost £6 and was incredible. Everyone had a good time, and it was a good break from the work. I got down to some serious MIMSing in the evening.

I didn't get up till noon, but, since then I have tidied and vacuumed my room, washed up all my stuff and cleaned the kitchen draining board, put some washing in (nearly done) and revised some Renal Physiology. Huzzah! It's a satisfying feeling.

Gotta go get washing now. Love you all

Tom is being tortured. Make it stop. PLEASE.

My wife is EVIL.

I came round in all innocence to do some work, and inadvertantly locked myself out, with no shoes on. So, here I am doing work in Jen's room with no shoes. Fair enough I hear you say - why is this evil? Surely it is a charming chance for some marital bonding. It WAS until she decided she would subject me to the HELL that is G4 under the excuse that "I must practice listening to them without experiencing physical pain in time for the gig". Humm... I think she's just plain MEAN.

But anyway, back to another G4 purge THEY ARE DOING BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY. You know, like the best song EVER (Tom goes teenage girl on us) and they have succeded in taking all of the feeling out of it. And LIFE ON MARS. I cry. I really do. And Creep... and Jerusalem.... Oh My God.

Lost for words.

Happy Birthday to Me!

19 years old. Holy cheese monkeys!

Went to see Star Wars Episode III last night, and was a little unimpressed. I didn't connect with it - the acting was poor (wooden as Alex put it) - Ewan McGregor is better than that, there was an unhealthy obsession with limb chopping and it was generally drawn out. There were some cool bits though to be fair.

Have had a muchly exciting birthday morning. Lydia bought me a "Twin Turbo Bubble Blower" with which I wet my room and covered Scot, Davy, Vicky and Alex with bubbles. Hehe - muchly fun.

Jen is annoyed because her present still hasn't arrived from eBay - evil man who should have sent it to her hasn't. Grr. My sister got me an amazing nodding cow that entertains me no end as I work at my desk. Hehe. Alex got me the British Sea Power album, which I am listening to at the moment - seems pretty good! She also got some fancy twisty crayon things... hehe... lots of childish presents! I love it!!!! She got me soap too to make me smell nice :)

Now, to work!

I'm Working!

Hello!

Tom is doing work... with Jen! Hooray! Jen says hello world, and takes photograph of tom also saying hello to world, which, itself is enjoying being said hello to. It says hello back in its own little way, the wave of a tree or the skip of a moon (im confused)

JEN IS HITTING ME WITH A WIRE. WE WANT TO UPLOAD PHOTO - BUT TOM BE IN WAY. BYE FOR A SECOND.

So... I've just finished Experimental Physiology of Crap - and as a result am treating myself to a rather large FAFF. As Jen continues with her phonetic transcription of knuckle cracking beauty... correction, Jaw Cracking beauty... correction EVERY-BLOODY-JOINT-IN-HER -BODY cracking. STOP JEN... IT HURTS ME MORE THAN YOU CAN EVER IMAGINE.
And we listen to the lion king - done by G4 - the worst thing ever to grace god's green earth. In my opinion anyway. CERTAIN PEOPLE like them... they have no ears (or if they do their ears are broken). This really does hurt. I just have that image of the arseface that is G4 guy in my head and it reallyreallyhurts.

LOOK AT HIM. The one on the right. Look at his hand, look at the way he hold the microphone, look at his face, imagine what it sounds like when his vocal chords vibrate... some people are going to see them live!!! AAAAAAAAAAARGH. I've never hated anyone more - even Greenday! GREEENDAY I TELL YOU!.
Sorry.. rant over.
AAAAnyway, I'm off to MIMS it up big time.
See You Soon

The rain it falls

Today it rains. It rains alot. I went to buttery, and on my way (it's only a short journey) I saw many "exciting" (not really) things. See diagram
Interesting Map!

A. Arrow points to my room
B. The porters lodge where I have a large unknown parcel in my pidgeon hole. The porter was away for 30 mins - so much 24hr portering, and as such I couldn't get it. Yeah, my birthday isn't till Monday but it'd be nice to hold it now!
C. The place on the Cam where I saw some punters. PUNTING, on a day like today. They were getting wet with nothing more than an umbrella to hold them up - no doubt they will sink.
D. BUTTERY, where I had the most amazing brunch. 2xbacon, 2xegg, 2xtomatoes, mushrooms, 2xsausage, beans, orange juice. Mmmmmmmm

Plus, I got up at 8.50 this morning. On a SATURDAY!!!!! I did physiology and learnt stuff. Now I'm procrastinating cos I dont want to do any more. AAARGH.

***UPDATE*** - The desecrated flower.

It appears that the person responsible for the propping up of the plant, despite its dead state is Mr Paul Moyses (he confessed on the grass in Mem today) - he seemed to think it was a kind idea, "It looked so sad that I thought I'd better rescue it so that at least it could be appreciated one last time before it died"

Maybe so, but I still have a sick feeling - it should have been left to die in peace

Now I am also wracked with guilt. Is the murderer I seek infact me?
It was so well a few days ago - I watered it, and everything. We twisted it every time we went past it so it flowered and didn't just grow towards the window. Did I inadvertantly kill it by making it flower?

follow the entire story here

Lateness, Muscles and Cake

Interesting morning - to cut a long story short, Alex and Andrew thought our test was at 11am, while Mary and I were sure it was 11.30. We eventually gave in and left, arriving at the anatomy room at 11.10, 10 minutes late. Oops... not sure how we got into out heads that it was that time, though Ben(Bob) turned up at 11.30 - maybe Dr Holmes got the time wrong once which we cottoned onto?

I got 49.5/70, 48/70 if you dont count the questions I cheated on :S. Still, thats 69% and the pass mark is 70% - hopefully I'll be ok come June.

Had lunch in Ask with Alex, nice pizza, a cookie cake and coffee. It's alot more expensive than Pizza Express which we thought was an all round more enjoyable dining experience.

Spent the afternoon revising forelimb muscles, which worked amazingly (I even know that the long head of triceps has a synovial bursa in the olecranon groove!) - we now remember much more. Speaking through and discussing stuff really helps you remember it much better. We both agreed that Dr Holmes view that the rhomboids are anti-abductors is untrue and they are infact anti-adductors (surely there is a pivot around the point of the scapula?) - do any other vets have a view on this subject?

Dinner with Dave and Jen, which was beautiful, before some of Alex's Mum's chocolate cake. Wow!

Now I'm going to do a bit of Digestion revision before going to Reece and Iona's to help them celebrate their 6 month anniversary!

Biochemistry

I was actually getting quite interested, until today when I spent the best part of an hour learning letters. I can't see how knowing that PI3 kinase splits inositol to PtIns(345)P3 which causes dimerisation of PDK-1 and Atk, which then inhibit GSK3beta is ever going to be useful to my career as a vet. EVER. Still, maybe I'll be wrong. I guess there's a chance that there's a drug that'll work on them.

Just about to venture off to the library. I've had a bit of Sainsburys Blue Bolt Caffine Drink so I should be able to get a few hours in before I get too tired.

The plant has been destroyed

The beautiful flower adorning the ground floor - first floor staircase on R has been desecrated by some evil entity.

Cleaved in two through the centre of its stem. Disgusted I was upon my return from Cindies last night to find that, not only had someone broken the plant, but had had the cheek to balance the broken stem on the remainder of the potted section. Thats no better than propping up a dead body and pretending they're still alive.

WANTED - whoever has committed this vile act. There is no reward, only the promise of much kudos.

Andrew's, Alice's and My Birthday Celebration

Today was a good day, went out to do some histology revision in the morning then went shopping with Alex. I got a nice new shirt, and she got some damned funky earrings. Did a bit of work in the afternoon, before going off to formal. We managed to fill 1 and a half tables between us out of 2 available for undergrads which was quite impressive. Lots of lovely people came and a good time was had by all (except certain englings who were a bit unwell). A run home to get changed, during which we witnessed Andrew Bates throwing Jen's Handbag... dear oh dear. Then back to the bar, followed by Cindies till late. Alex the boy got lost at about 2ish in London, but he seemed to have turned up this morning.

And so I climed to the top of the bean-stalk and what did I find? A GIANT Dave with huge bottles of wine. I confused the giant with my mind games until he was very dizzy, and what with all the alcohol, he fell down all the way to the bottom of the beanstalk and I was able to drink the wine. Muwahaha
